Laguna launches its first pilgrimage program to enhance local tourism

PILA, Laguna — The 1st Laguna Pilgrimage Tourism was officially launched at the National Shrine and Parish of Saint Anthony de Padua in Pila, marking a major step in strengthening and promoting religious tourism across the province.

Governor Sol Aragones said Laguna is “complete, abundant, and overflowing” with centuries-old churches and deep stories of faith, stressing that residents need not travel abroad when the province has its own historical and sacred sites. She also highlighted food tourism as a key element of the initiative.

Cynthia Mamon, COO of Enchanted Kingdom and president of the Laguna Tourism Council, said pilgrimage tourism deepens the faith of Filipino travelers and enriches their journeys. Pila Mayor Queen Alarva expressed pride in hosting the inaugural event.

Vice Governor JM Carait said the provincial board fully supports the governor’s vision, noting that work is underway to craft a comprehensive tourism development plan. Board Member Jam Agarao praised Aragones’ leadership, citing the 4th District’s wealth of cultural heritage and faith traditions.

Tourism consultant Rebecca V. Labit said seminars on security, traffic management, and hospitality are ongoing to prepare for increased visitor activity. The event concluded with leaders and stakeholders signing a covenant affirming their shared commitment to advancing pilgrimage tourism in Laguna.
