BAGUIO CITY November 21 – The Department of Migrant Workers-CAR has alerted Cordillerans to be wary of speedy deployment abroad amid reports that over 150 overseas Filipino workers and aspiring migrants were victimized by a suspected large-scale illegal recruiter and her associates based in Japan over the past several months.
DMW-CAR regional director Cheryl Daytec-Yangot said that victims who visited their office reported having been recruited for work in Japan in the domestic, factory, construction, and hospitality sectors between July to September.
The promised jobs, however, turned out to be reportedly non-existent.
The DMW-CAR official said recruitment fees ranged from P150,000 to P200,000 payable either directly to the recruiter or through an agent.
“The shortcuts offered by illegal recruiters often lead to heartbreak, financial loss, and shattered dreams. Choosing the fast path may seem tempting, but it carries risks that can never be fully repaired. When it comes to securing your work abroad and safeguarding your life and rights, which path will you choose?” Daytec-Yangot said.
She reminded aspiring OFWs to only engage recruiters who are licensed and authorized by the DMW.
