Malaysian convicted in P10-billion shabu case

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday the successful prosecution of Malaysian national Kong Ket Koon for possession of 1.48 tons of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu).

“According to PDEA (Philipine Drug Enforcement Agency), the estimated total street value of the 1.48 tons of shabu is over P10 billion. The penalty was life imprisonment and a fine of P10 million,” Justice spokesperson Polo Martinez told reporters.

The DOJ viewed the case as the “biggest drug bust in recent history” which led to the conviction of the accused.

The Regional Trial Court of Olongapo City found the accused “guilty beyond reasonable doubt” of the crime of illegal possession of prohibited drugs, Martinez said.
