ICI inspects flood control projects in Cebu

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) conducted an inspection on eight flood control projects in Cebu over the weekend, paving the way for a more comprehensive probe into structural deficiencies following the damage caused by Typhoon Tino.

In a statement released on Monday, November 17, the ICI noted that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed that some of the projects were implemented by the top 15 contractors mentioned by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Office, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are in Cebu after the inspection to verify whether the required specifications were properly set and met,” the statement read.

The ICI’s inspection focused on flood control projects in the following locations: Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City (along the Butuanon River); Barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City (along the Butuanon River); Barangay Tamiao in the Municipality of Compostela; Purok Gemelina in the Municipality of Compostela; Barangay Cotcot in the Municipality of Liloan; Salinas Drive in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City; Mananga Bridge in Talisay City; and Dumlog Bridge in Barangay Biasong, Talisay City.

The inspection was led by Special Adviser Rodolfo Azurin Jr., who was accompanied by Public Works Undersecretary Arthur Bisnar and Engineers Mark Gerson Baril, Divino Nabe, Joary Cervantes, and Amernedhamie Macapaar. 

Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan and Army Lt. Col. Bryan Paler also accompanied the inspection team.

To recall, Typhoon Tino made landfall on November 4, affecting Silago, Southern Leyte; Borbon, Cebu; and Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
