The Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) church countered online accusations that its members were paid P3,000 each to attend Sunday’s anti-corruption rally by releasing a video showing participants refuting such claims.
In a video compilation posted on its official Facebook page, “INC News and Update,” on Monday (November 17), the attendees denied receiving cash for their attendance.
“Kami ‘yung nagkusang pumunta rito,” one of the members said.
(We are the ones who came here voluntarily.)
“Ang dami pong kapatid na Iglesia Ni Cristo na nandito po ngayon. Tapos, P3,000 per head? Nagpapatawa po kayo. Sabi nga ng ibang kapatid dito, baka kami po ang magbigay sa inyo ng P3,000,” another added.
(There are so many Iglesia Ni Cristo brothers and sisters here today. Then, P3,000 per head? You’re kidding. Some of the other brothers here said, Maybe we are the ones who can give you P3,000.)
As of 10 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) estimated that about 120,000 participants remained within the Quirino Grandstand vicinity.
The rally is expected to continue until tomorrow, November 18.
