UPI gets extension for EDSA People Power Monument rally

The United People’s Initiative, organizer of Sunday’s protest at the People Power Monument in Quezon City, has received an extension from the Quezon City local government allowing the group to continue its peaceful assembly today, Monday, November 17.

The UPI is set to hold another assembly, with the scheduled activities running from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. today.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Spokesperson Police Maj. Jennifer Gannaban confirmed the approval of the extension, noting that the group had complied with the necessary procedures.

“Nag-apply po ulit sila sa QC LGU na inapprove naman so bukas po November 17 from 8:00 am ulit sila until 10:00 pm,” Gannaban stated.

She described the second permit as a new application following a prior agreement.

“Panibago. Kasi ‘yung una nila in-apply although 3 days kasi ‘yun through coordination nila at meeting, pumayag sila doon sa 1-day lang, but then ngayon kasi gusto nilang mag-extend,” Gannaban explained.

“So ang naging suggestion namin para maging maayos pa rin katulad ng resulta ngayon is kailangan nilang mag-apply ng permit and ‘yun inapprove naman po ng ating QC LGU,” she added.

Gannaban emphasized that the new permit carries the same guidelines and rules as the previous one.

These restrictions include a ban on certain actions to ensure order.

“Bawal pa rin po ‘yung mga seditious statements, bawal pa rin po ‘yung marching from kung saan sila kasi kailangan nasa PPM na po sila na doon sa kanilang activities,” she confirmed.

The QCPD also noted the turnout during Sunday’s protest, stating that peak attendance reached approximately 4,000 in the evening.
