Palace urges caution ahead of INC rally amid Zaldy Co claims

Malacañang on Friday urged the public to exercise caution ahead of this weekend’s Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally, amid new accusations from former lawmaker Zaldy Co linking President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to the anomalous flood control projects.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that INC members are discerning and can distinguish truth from falsehood.

“They know who is lying and they know who is truly working for the people,” Castro said.

The religious group is set to hold a three-day rally from November 16 to 18, calling for government transparency and accountability over the infrastructure corruption mess.

Castro described Co’s claims as only “Part 1” of a developing story, suggesting more allegations may follow.

She also suggested that Co’s accusations could be driven by obstructionists or destabilizers, or by Co acting on his own to cover his past actions.

On speculation over who might be behind Co’s accusations, Castro hinted at “obstructionists” or those seeking to destabilize, or possibly Co acting on his own.

“Did I ever think about it? It’s hard to speak, but sometimes you all think about who could be behind this… is it the very one who is trapped by the actions that he himself made?” she said.

In a video statement released earlier, Co said that President Marcos ordered him to insert P100-billion worth of projects into the 2025 national budget.

The former lawmaker claimed that both Mr. Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez allegedly influenced the approval and funding of the flood control projects.
