Voter registration ends today, no extension—Comelec

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday urged eligible voters to beat the May 18 deadline for registration for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), stressing that no extension will be granted beyond 5 p.m. today.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia reminded the public that all voter registration transactions must be completed within the deadline.

“The deadline is today, Monday. Our reminder to those who have not yet registered: there will be no extension,” Garcia said.

He added that the registration period also covers applications for transfer of registration records, reactivation of deactivated registrations, and correction or updating of voter information.

“We are reminding our kababayans: whether new voters, those who would like to transfer registration, those who want their registration reactivated or those who would have certain details in their registration changed, these can be done only until May 18,” Garcia said.

The poll body also assured assistance for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, members of indigenous peoples and indigenous cultural communities, as well as other vulnerable sectors seeking to update their records.

The BSKE is scheduled in 2026 and will elect barangay officials and youth leaders nationwide. Comelec earlier encouraged the public to avoid last-minute registration to prevent overcrowding at local election offices.
