The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Friday strengthened its air operations capabilities with the formal acceptance of five new S-70i Black Hawk helicopters
These five helicopters are the fourth batch in the 32-unit S-70i Black Hawk acquisition from Poland’s PZL Mielec, procured under the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Program.
The latest batch arrived in the Philippines on October 20, following earlier deliveries on June 10, 2024, Dec. 9, 2024, and July 15.
Each aircraft underwent a thorough Technical Inspection and Acceptance (TIA) from October 22 to 26, conducted jointly by the Department of National Defense (DND), AFP, and PAF to ensure operational readiness.
The helicopters will be operated and maintained by the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing under the Air Mobility Command.
Known for their versatility, speed, and reliability, the S-70i Black Hawks will enhance the PAF’s capabilities in humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR), troop and cargo transport, and tactical support operations.
“With this latest addition, the PAF continues to strengthen its air mobility capability and fulfill its mandate to protect the nation and serve the Filipino people—in times of both humanitarian crisis and conflict,” PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Christina Basco said.
