Philippine electric vehicle registrations jumped fivefold in 2024

Electric vehicle registrations in the Philippines jumped almost fivefold year-on-year in 2024 to 6,697 from 1,359 IN 2023, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Hybrid vehicle registrations also surged 185.8 percent to 17,590 from 6,155 in 2023.

The surge in electric and hybrid vehicles comes as the overall number of registered vehicles increased to 14.56 million in 2024 from 14.27 million in 2023, the Land Transportation Office said.

Gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for the bulk of registrations at 11.45 million or 78.7 percent, while 3.08 million vehicles or 21.2 percent used diesel.

The remaining 0.2 percent used either liquefied petroleum gas, electric or hybrid power sources.

The Department of Public Works and Highways also reported that the national road network reached a total length of 35,530 kilometers in 2024.

The network consists of 35,210 kilometers of paved roads, which includes 22,030 kilometers of concrete and 13,180 kilometers of asphalt roads.

The remaining 315.36 kilometers of unpaved surfaces are composed of 282.24 kilometers of gravel and 33.12 kilometers of earth roads.
