LTO waives license, traffic fines until Nov. 28

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has waived fines for the renewal of expired driver’s licenses and traffic apprehensions until November 28, following the recent suspension of work in government offices caused by typhoons Tino and Uwan.

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao ordered all regional and assistant regional directors, regional operations division chiefs, and district or extension office heads nationwide to extend the validity of driver’s licenses that expired on October 30.

To ease the burden on motorists affected by the twin typhoons, the LTO said no fines or penalties will be imposed on those renewing their licenses within the grace period.

Lacanilao also clarified that apprehensions made from October 28 to November 12 will not be subject to the usual 30-day accessory penalty suspension applied to violators who fail to settle fines within 15 days of receiving a temporary operator’s permit.

The LTO chief reiterated that the extension will remain in effect until November 28, encouraging motorists to take advantage of the measure and assuring continued consideration for those affected.

The agency added that measures are being implemented to help the regions severely hit by the typhoons to recover.
