THE Philippine Army has honored members of the multi-sector Joint Peace and Security Team (JPST) for helping push peace-keeping initiatives in Mindanao.
The JPST is composed of personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces–Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF–MILF) who serve as frontliners in securing law and order in erstwhile conflict-affected communities.
The JPST members were recognized for their vital role in sustaining peace and stability in Mindanao with the award of medals in a ceremony hosted by the Army’s 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division at the Division Wellness Center in Camp Sang-an, Zamboanga Del Sur on Monday.
The ceremony also marked a historic milestone as member of Parliament Basit “Jannati Mimbantas” Abbas, Front Commander of the Northeastern Mindanao Front of the BIAF–MILF, became the first MILF leader to visit the 1st ID headquarters deemed as a “powerful symbol of unity and strengthened cooperation between the AFP and the MILF.”
