‘Uwan’ cuts power in parts of Eastern Visayas, Bicol

Super Typhoon ‘Uwan’ began affecting parts of Eastern Visayas and the Bicol regions, bringing heavy rains and destructive winds, resulting in widespread power interruptions on Sunday morning, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) has reported.

In a video statement, OCD deputy administrator for administration Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV informed reporters that their regional offices have been reporting outages instigated by the storm.

Alejandro said Tacloban City along with Palo, Bato, Babatngon—all in Leyte—began losing electricity as of 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, with some parts of Northern Samar also under similar circumstances.

Power outages are also being reported in the Catanduanes, where ‘Uwan’ is likely to make a landfall within the day, according to the 8:00 a.m. weather bulletin of PAGASA.

Nagkakaroon na rin po ng power outages sa iba’t ibang lugar sa Bicol Region (power outages are now being reported in various areas of the Bicol Region),” Alejandro said.

The OCD is still waiting for information concerning incidents of floods and landslides.

Families preemptively evacuated in Albay are now placed at 50,000 families as of 3 a.m. Sunday.

Alejandro also reminded all local government units (LGUs) in the path of ‘Uwan’ to take the necessary preemptive measures.

These apply to the LGUs located in Southern, Central and Northern Luzon.
