DOE awards 10.2 GW in green energy auction

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced the conclusion of its fourth Green Energy Auction Program (GEA-4), awarding 10,195.49 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity to 123 winning bidders.

The landmark initiative, aimed at accelerating the deployment of clean power across the Philippines, achieved a 96-percent success rate against its installation target, with projects committed for delivery starting 2026 until 2029.

The robust participation in GEA-4 underscores growing investor confidence in the nation’s renewable energy sector and reinforces the country’s commitment to its clean energy goals, the DOE said.

It said the awarded capacity represents a diverse mix of technologies spread across the major grids of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Ground-mounted solar projects secured the largest share, accounting for over 4,179.09 MW. Floating solar emerged as a strong contender, securing 2,284 MW, which includes large-scale projects planned for Laguna, Pampanga and Negros.

Onshore wind projects added 2,518.29 MW, with significant developments scheduled for Quezon, Sorsogon and Visayas provinces.

The auction also awarded 1,189.29 MW to Integrated Renewable Energy with Energy Storage Systems (IRESS), a technology the DOE notes is vital for enhancing grid reliability and energy security.

Roof-mounted solar contributed a smaller but important 24.82 MW, promoting decentralized and urban clean energy solutions.

All winning bidders are required to submit key compliance documents, including affidavits of undertaking, performance bonds, system impact studies and proof of financial obligations, by Dec. 6, 2025.

The auction was conducted in accordance with DOE Circular No. DC2021-11-00361 and the terms of reference for GEA-4.
