The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has warned barangay officials to be vigilant against fixers and illegal brokers arranging fraudulent marriages between Filipinos and foreign nationals.
The warning came during a training workshop attended by over 400 barangay officials and local civil registrars in Camarines Sur.
CFO representative Janet B. Ramos said fake birth and marriage certificates continue to surface, often linked to unscrupulous brokers.
Ramos cited the Anti-Mail Order Spouse Act, which prohibits commercial matchmaking between Filipinos and foreigners.
The CFO also promoted its Guidance and Counseling Program (GCP), a mandatory orientation for Filipinos entering intermarriages to ensure informed consent and safe migration. Vito Barcelo
Ramos stressed that accurate civil registration is key to establishing legal identity and protecting Filipinos from exploitation abroad.
