ROS’ Asistio thankful for minutes in crunchtime

Anton Asistio got his timing right when the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters repulsed the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, 91-80, in the 50th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.

“I’m thankful of the opportunities I got during crunchtime. Just trying to make the right plays,” said Asistio after he delivered 20 for the Painters on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Gian Mamuyac finished with 22 points for ROS, which moved up in the standings with their 5-1 win-loss record.

Asistio stepped in for Keith Datu, whose recurring knee injury kept him out of the game in the third quarter.

With the count tied at 63-all, Asistio hit two triples in the last 5:55 as the Elasto Painters took control with their 80-71 lead.

“We’re struggling. But we’re still here. We’re finding ways to win,” said ROS coach Yeng Guiao, adding his team is struggling with the absence of their big players.

Another big man, Caelan Tiongson has been out since last week due to a hamstring injury.

Tiongson, who was injured during their game against Blackwater, is supposed to return this November.

“Kulang talaga kami sa bigs,” said Guiao.
