Why Manny Pacquiao has to leave Netflix reality series ‘Physical: Asia’

Manny Pacquiao has withdrawn from the Netflix competition series “Physical: Asia,” citing a prior commitment in the Philippines that required him to leave the program earlier than planned. 

In the fifth episode of the series, Pacquiao apologized to his teammates and viewers for his departure while the competition was still ongoing.

“I have to leave the competition and return to the Philippines because of another obligation in my home country,” Pacquiao said during the episode. 

The octuple champion did not disclose the nature of the commitment. 

“I also want to apologize to my team. As a team captain, I was really proud to have the opportunity to represent the Philippines,“ he added.

Pacquiao served as the original captain of Team Philippines in the newest installment of the “Physical: 100l franchise, which now features country-based teams competing in large-scale physical challenges. 

Former CrossFit Games athlete Justin Hernandez will take over as team captain following Pacquiao’s exit.

Beginning Episode 6, Team Philippines will continue the competition with Hernandez, Fil-Am sambo athlete Mark “Mugen” Striegl, strongman Ray Jefferson Querubin, national rugby player Justin Coveney, hurdler Robyn Lauren Brown, and CrossFit athlete Lara Liwanag.

“Physical: Asia” is currently streaming on Netflix.
