Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the immediate repair of damaged or potholed roads leading to the Manila North Cemetery to ensure safe and smooth travel during the observance of Undas 2025.
Dizon said the repair works cover key routes such as Blumentritt Road, Aurora Avenue, and Laong Laan and Dimasalang Streets, which are heavily used by motorists and pedestrians visiting cemeteries in Manila.
The effort forms part of the DPWH ‘Lakbay Alalay’ Program for the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day holidays.
Dizon said the initiative aims to provide comfort and safety to the public, particularly those traveling to pay respects to their departed loved ones. The DPWH teams have been deployed to repair road damages, patch potholes, and clear obstructions in time for the long weekend.
Aside from Metro Manila, Dizon also instructed all regional and district engineering offices nationwide to accelerate ongoing road works and complete maintenance activities under the Operation Zero Potholes program.
The directive includes the installation of lane markings and safety signs to ensure orderly and secure traffic flow.
To help motorists, the DPWH has also installed signages and rerouting boards along major roads and alternate routes leading to cemeteries. These guides are meant to assist travelers in navigating detours and avoiding congested areas.
With the temporary suspension of the number coding scheme for Undas, Dizon said traffic volume is expected to surge significantly. Authorities are preparing for hundreds of thousands of additional vehicles on major expressways and roads in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The DPWH reminded motorists to plan their trips early, observe traffic rules, and remain patient on the road, as the government continues to ensure a safe and organized observance of Undas 2025.
