LENARD Angelo Santiago of National University has been handed a five-game suspension following a disqualifying foul committed last Sunday, October 26, during National University’s UAAP Season 88 Collegiate Men’s Basketball game against Ateneo de Manila University.
Santiago will serve his suspension starting on Sunday, November 2, during the Bulldogs’ matchup against the De La Salle University Green Archers at SM Mall of Asia Arena and will also apply in their games against Adamson University on November 8, Far Eastern University on November 12, University of the East on November 15, and University of Santo Tomas on November 23.
The suspension resulted from a dangerous non-basketball play he committed.
At the 8:50 mark of the fourth quarter, both Santiago and Ateneo’s Waki Espina fell on the court after a rebound play.
Santiago struck Espina on the back of the head with his right forearm while Espina was in a prone position, which resulted in his disqualification.
After a review, the UAAP Season 88 Basketball Commissioner’s Office deemed Santiago’s conduct unsportsmanlike and considered the act dangerous.
National University may file a motion for reconsideration regarding the suspension.
