Keeping the Filipino Christmas spirit alive

Long before December arrives, Christmas has already begun in the Philippines. The lighting of SM Aura’s 30-foot Christmas tree on Oct. 20 marked the start of the long holiday season—a tradition Filipinos have kept alive for generations.

SM Aura Regional Operations head Stephanie Co said the event was particularly meaningful this year.

“This event is extra special as the grand holiday spectacle not only marks the lighting of our Christmas tree but also the first among all 89 SM Supermalls nationwide, officially opening the holiday season across the country.”

She added that the refreshed spaces mirror the vibrant community that continues to gather at the mall each year.

“We welcome a new aura with brighter spaces, a refreshed atmosphere, and an experience that reflects the vibrant community we serve. These changes, along with every event and every light we bring to life, are all for our valued customers and partners,” she said.

Hosted by Tim Yap, the celebration featured performances from Rhian Ramos, Michelle Dee, and Christine Allado, who helped build excitement before the tree-lighting ceremony. Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano also joined the crowd in counting down to the lighting of the tree.

In the coming weeks, Christmas festivities will unfold across all SM Supermalls, featuring carol performances, parades, and weekend programs that bring families and communities together in the spirit of the season.

“As we illuminate our 30-foot Christmas tree today, may its glow remind us of what this season is all about—sharing joy, giving light, and coming together as one community,” Co said.

The same spirit can be felt across the country as homes, streets, and plazas light up, reminding Filipinos that Christmas has always been a celebration of togetherness.

As more lights across the country begin to glow, the message remains the same: Christmas in the Philippines is about the people you share it with.
