Bulacan 6th district Rep. Salvador Pleyto Sr. on Monday dismissed as “fake news” his reported links with the Discaya couple in connection with a flood control project in the province.
“I have nothing to do with the Discayas. Out of the numerous projects of the engineering office in the first district, our firm, SA Pleyto Corporation, won only one bid, but this was outside my legislative district,” the lawmaker said.
“We can join and we are allowed to join in biddings. I already divested my shares as president/CEO in the company since May 2022, before I took my oath as congressman of the sixth district in July 2022,” added Pleyto, stressing that his corporate position was assumed by his wife, Miguela.
This was his response to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla’s supposed insinuations that he received a project “remittance” from the Discaya couple involving the Bulacan project.
“We are very careful with such projects. The engineers hired by my wife do their job properly,” Pleyto said.
He was apparently referring to questions raised about a P22 million flood control project in the Parolan Section in Plaridel town, along the Angat River, which was completed in August 2023.
Since the project is already complete, the lawmaker stressed that it cannot be called a “ghost project.“
“I strongly condemn these accusations and insinuations against me,” Pleyto said.
