‘Missing sabungeros’ search on hold due to poor underwater visibility

Justice spokesperson Polo Martinez announced that Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) divers searching for the remains of the “missing sabungeros” in Taal Lake have been placed on standby amid the volcano’s restiveness and poor weather.

“According to PCG, all operations have been temporarily suspended due to the deterioration of prevailing weather conditions in the area. Primarily, there is significantly poor underwater visibility,” he said on Monday.

He noted that the units are prepared to resume operations once weather conditions improve.

Yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a minor phreatic eruption and two minor phreatomagmatic eruptions, as well as 33 volcanic earthquakes in Taal Volcano.
