The Filipino casualty was part of a seven-person group that climbed the 3,190-meter peak of Mt. Okuhotakadake, located between Nagano and Gifu prefectures in the Northern Japan Alps.

Earlier reports indicated the 53-year-old man became stranded while descending and was in a serious condition before later being confirmed dead. — With reports from Kyodo News
