PH Embassy in Singapore reminds Filipinos all political activities banned

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore reminded Filipino citizens that engaging in any politically related activities while in Singapore is prohibited.

The embassy issued an advisory stating that foreigners visiting or residing in Singapore should not use the country as a platform to promote their political causes.

“All foreign nationals must strictly abide by Singapore’s laws and rules that regulate political activities in public places,” the advisory read.

The embassy also issued Singapore’s laws and regulations, which include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Public assemblies in Singapore are regulated under the Public Order Act. Organizing or participating in a public assembly without a police permit is illegal; The same applies even if the gathering involves one person, and/or for the purpose of posting online.
  • No permit will be granted for assemblies organized by or involving non-Singaporeans for the purpose of political or election campaigning.
  • Any foreigner who organizes or participates in an unlawful public assembly will be dealt with firmly, which may include termination of visas or work passes where applicable.
  • Under the National Emblems Act, the display in public of any national emblem such as a flag, banner, or emblem of any state, political organization claiming to be a national movement in any state, or national leader of a state/political organization.

The embassy further advised Filipinos to be cautious when expressing support or opposition to government officials or political views, as well as engaging in acts that tend to publicize a cause or campaign.
