President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed three new leaders of key transportation agencies, Malacañang announced Friday.
Markus Lacanilao has been named chairman of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Vigor Mendoza II will head the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Teofilo Guadiz III has been appointed chairperson of the Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC).
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro made the announcement without additional directives or timelines from President Marcos.
Lacanilao previously held roles in government service involving regulatory and administrative functions. He also served as the Philippines’ special envoy for transnational crime under the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
As LTO chief, Lacanilao will be responsible for overseeing driver licensing, vehicle registration, and enforcement of land transportation policies.
Mendoza is a lawyer and former public official with experience in transport regulation and legal compliance. He returns to the LTFRB, which supervises public utility franchises and fare regulation.
Guadiz, also a lawyer, earlier served as LTFRB chairman before being reassigned to the OTC. The agency oversees accreditation and development of transport cooperatives nationwide.
Further details on transition plans and policy priorities are expected in the coming days as the new agency heads formally assume their posts.
