Ratings dip for execs linked to flood control

The overall performance rating of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration dropped from 31 percent to 27 percent last quarter, according to a survey by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc.

In the latest Pahayag poll, President Marcos’ approval and trust ratings slightly declined from 25 percent to 24 percent and from 19 percent to 17 percent, respectively. Vice President Sara Duterte maintained her approval and trust ratings at 36 percent and 32 percent.

According to PUBLiCUS, these results may suggest that public dissatisfaction is shifting toward officials allegedly involved in the controversy over anomalous flood control projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Senate President Chiz Escudero and House Speaker Martin Romualdez both saw significant declines in their ratings. Escudero’s approval rating fell from 28 percent in the first quarter to 19 percent, while his trust rating dropped from 19 percent to 11 percent.

Speaker Romualdez recorded the steepest decline, with approval falling from 15 percent to 7 percent and trust from 10 percent to 5 percent.

The survey also revealed that senators implicated in the DPWH flood control probe saw sharp increases in unfavorability ratings: Joel Villanueva (-29%), Mark Villar (-36%), and Jinggoy Estrada (-47%).

Meanwhile, Senator Risa Hontiveros remains the most favored senator at 27 percent, widening the gap with Raffy Tulfo, who has 11 percent.

The survey was conducted from September 27 to 30 among 1,500 respondents randomly selected from the market research panel of registered Filipino voters maintained by the Singapore office of PureSpectrum, a U.S.-based panel marketplace with a global presence.

Pahayag is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. conducted quarterly.
