LTO gives motorists leeway on license renewals amid calamities

The Land Transportation Office announced that the validity of motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses that expired at the end of September has been extended until October 15 in view of lost working days due to recent calamities.

In a statement, LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said he has issued a memorandum to all regional directors and district office heads advising them about the extension.

Mendoza assured that there will be no penalties to be charged to the motor vehicle owners and driver’s license holders.

“This is in consideration of the cancellations of government work caused by heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, typhoons ‘Nando,’ ‘Opong’ and ‘Paulo’, and the devastating earthquake that struck Cebu,” he said.

“A lot of our countrymen were affected, and this was the LTO’s way of assisting the affected clients in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive,” he added.

The 15 days for settling traffic apprehension cases, effective September 26, will also be extended until October 15.
