Makati City officials led by Mayor Nancy Binay celebrated World Teachers’ Day on October 2, honoring teachers’ contributions to education and community development.
The event, held at the Makati Coliseum, gathered 1,689 teaching and non-teaching staff from elementary to senior high school levels. Teachers received kits containing jackets, polo shirts, and portable fans, along with ₱2,000 gift vouchers.
Local councilors and education officials joined the program, pledging continued investment in educational initiatives to strengthen both teachers and students.
Binay, who comes from a family of educators, expressed gratitude for teachers’ sacrifices, recognizing their long hours, personal struggles, and dedication to students’ welfare.
She called teachers the country’s “true heroes” and reaffirmed Makati’s commitment to support the teaching community as vital partners in shaping the nation’s future. Joel E. Zurbano
