Several private businesses based in the nation’s capital contributed 400 metal roofing sheets and assorted relief supplies to Masbate residents affected by Typhoon “Opong” through a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) initiative.
This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide prompt aid to the communities in need.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes expressed gratitude to Megaworld, represented by Vice President Anton Calugay, as well as to ride-hailing services such as Angkas, Grab, Move It, the Land Title Guarantee Company, and Ortigas Land for their generous contributions to the communities in need of support.
The agency earlier dispatched three Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief teams to Masbate Province to ensure the distribution of clean water through a water purification system, assist in road clearing efforts, and deliver medical aid.
These teams are prepared to offer immediate support, which includes medical assistance and the distribution of essential supplies to the affected residents.
Artes said the teams, consisting of 35 personnel from the Public Safety Division, Metro Parkways Clearing Group, and Road Emergency Group, are assigned to guarantee rapid assistance to the communities impacted in Masbate Province.
The teams are organized into three distinct groups: one will focus on supplying clean water to the affected areas using water purification systems, another will engage in road-clearing operations, and the third will provide medical assistance.
The contingent is equipped with 40 water purifiers with additional filters and solar power sources, a generator set, 300 modular evacuation tents, various clearing tools and equipment such as chainsaws, among others.
The MMDA also deployed two military trucks and an ambulance with a complete crew.
