House urges Senate to extend budget plenary sessions ‘til Oct. 13

The House of Representatives on Wednesday adopted a resolution asking the Senate to extend its plenary session until October 13.

House Resolution 320 was adopted during Wednesday’s session to allow the 20th Congress to meet its deadline to approve the proposed P6.793 trillion national budget for 2026.

Based on the original legislative schedule, Congress is supposed to adjourn October 4. It was later scheduled to begin on October 11.

The lower chamber is expected to pass the budget bill on second reading before sessions adjourn this month. The House is currently deliberating on the measure in plenary session.

The House earlier approved a committee report containing the Budget Amendments Review Subcommittee’s (BARSc) reallocation of the P255.53 billion budget removed from the flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The amount was reallocated to education, health, agriculture, labor and other human capital programs following President’s directive to set a zero allocation for new flood control projects.
