CEBU PROVINCE—The Cebu Provincial government through the Provincial Emergency Command Center (PECC) at the Heritage Park, Capitol Compound, said it accepts all forms of donations, volunteers, goods and transportation services for those affected by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake.
About 100 medical students from various universities in Cebu, health workers, and even ordinary citizens flocked to the Capitol on Wednesday, October 1 to extend assistance and some have already been deployed to Northern Cebu to help in relief and medical operations.
The surge of support reflects the Cebuanos’ spirit of bayanihan in times of crisis, as more donations continue to arrive at the Capitol.
Actress Zsa Zsa Padilla was spotted at the Capitol command center this afternoon to donate ready-to-eat food packs showing solidarity with the Cebuano people during difficult times and hardships.
A team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Central Visayas field office arrived at Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City to assess the situation. DSWD Undersecretary Diana Rose Cajipe of the Disasters Response Management Group (DRMG) with Regional Director Shalane Lucero assured the community of the agency’s support.
They pledged funeral assistance and family food packs to help displaced families recover from the disaster. They assured Cebu governor Pamela Baricuatro of more support through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) and the deployment of the Mobile Kitchen.
DSWD Central Visayas already deployed a Mobile Command Center, Mobile Kitchen, Water Tanker, and Water Filtration System. It has also activated its Quick Response Team (QRT) to address the impacts of the powerful earthquake that affected the provinces of Cebu and Bohol.
