QC celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival with giant mooncake

The Quezon City government on Sunday held the first ever Mooncake Festival, with a record-breaking giant mooncake display and dice game at the city’s Chinatown District in Banawe.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival is not just about food or customs, it is also about bringing people closer together. By marking this special occasion here in Quezon City, we honor the rich contributions of our Filipino-Chinese community and show that our city is a place where every culture is welcomed and celebrated,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

She stressed the value of celebrating the Mooncake Festival and the importance of honoring traditions that have become part of Quezon City’s identity.

The festival is organized through the City Tourism Department, in partnership with the QC Association of Filipino Businessmen Inc., aimed to highlight the Filipino-Chinese heritage while promoting local tourism and community participation.

The Mooncake Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is a centuries-old tradition observed across Chinese communities worldwide.

Belmonte pointed out that the festival is a celebration of family unity, gratitude, peace and prosperity.

“I also belong to the Filipino-Chinese community,” she said.

The city mayor is the daughter of former Mayor and Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and Betty Go, a prominent Chinese-Filipino journalist.
