The FIBA Executive Committee has officially announced the host cities for the four FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments, which will take place from March 11 to 17, 2026. Istanbul (Türkiye), Lyon-Villeurbanne (France), San Juan (Puerto Rico), and Wuhan (China) will each stage one of the qualifying events.
Each tournament will feature six national teams competing for coveted spots at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. In total, 24 teams from around the globe will battle for qualification, with berths earned through strong performances in the recent Continental Cup competitions.
All four host cities bring strong credentials in staging world-class basketball events. Türkiye, which previously staged the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2014, also hosted the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup in 2024 and is set to do so again in 2025. France, fresh off the excitement of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is no stranger to major women’s competitions, having hosted the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Bourges in 2020.
San Juan, Puerto Rico, further cemented its reputation as a rising hub for international basketball when it staged one of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2024. Meanwhile, Wuhan, China, has already proven its capability as a global basketball venue after serving as one of the main host cities for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
