Vivant Water president Jess Anthony Garcia explains the “sea-to-tap” desalination process to Cebu Vice Mayor Osmeña during a recent visit to the Isla Mactan Desalination Plant in Cordova. Codeveloped by global experts in water technology and Vivant Water, the water arm of Cebu- based Vivant Corp, the plant is the country’s first utility- scale seawater desalination facility. Designed to deliver 20 million liters of potable water daily, enough to serve nearly 29,000 Cebuano households, the project is in its final stages of testing and commissioning, before supplying the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) by end-2025.
