Navy responds to ‘Opong’ onslaught in Bicol

The Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NFSL) on Friday placed its units on high alert as Severe Tropical Storm Opong moves closer to the Bicol Region.

In a statement, the NFSL said that its search, rescue, and retrieval teams have been prepositioned for rapid deployment in coordination with the National and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils.

These teams are set to support preemptive evacuations, search and rescue missions, and the transport of relief supplies.

The NFSL said it is prioritizing humanitarian assistance and disaster response, particularly in coastal and flood-prone communities.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant, monitor official weather updates, and comply with evacuation orders from local authorities.

“NFSL further reminds the public to remain vigilant, monitor official weather bulletins, and strictly follow the guidance of local authorities, especially when evacuation advisories are issued,” the Navy said.
