Philippine Army reservists shine in UK drone race

Two Philippine Army reservists showcased their drone piloting skills against top military drone racers from around the world at the Military International Drone Racing Tournament (MIDRT) UK 25, held September 15–19 at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.

Private Marlon Caras and Private Andre Patrick Martinez represented the Army’s Reserve Command in the event, which drew about 50 competitors from more than a dozen countries.

Martinez finished 7th overall, while Caras placed 24th. Their combined performance helped the Philippine Army secure 5th place in the team rankings, behind Australia, Germany/Belgium, Great Britain, and New Zealand.

Now in its fifth and largest edition, the MIDRT featured high-speed drone races, time-trial courses, and military simulations.

These included challenges such as locating and striking ground targets and conducting simulated bomb drops on designated areas.

“The Philippine Army leadership reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the seamless integration and training parity of reserve units with the regular force as well as the sustained holistic professional and personal development of Army reservists.” Army Spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said.
