Building permits in the Philippines dropped 8.5 percent year-on-year in July to 15,395, according to preliminary data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The total number of approved building constructions was down from 16,821 in July 2024 and 16,394 in June 2025.
Residential buildings accounted for the largest share of projects at 10,157, an 8.5-percent decrease from 11,096 a year earlier. The majority of these were single-type houses (8,034 constructions).
Non-residential buildings followed with 3,205 projects, down 8.8 percent from 3,516 in July 2024. Commercial buildings made up the largest share of non-residential projects with 2,150 constructions.
The total value of construction projects also fell 7.5 percent year-on-year to P44.54 billion in July from P48.16 billion a year earlier.
The value of non-residential building construction dropped 16.6 percent to P19.84 billion, while residential buildings rose 0.2 percent to P19.77 billion.
The total floor area of constructions dropped 2.1 percent to 3.47 million square meters in July, from 3.54 million sq. m. a year earlier.
The average cost of construction in July was P11,534.74 per sq. m., a 7.0-percent decrease from P12,396.84 in July 2024.
