The Philippine Embassy in Yangon (Myanmar) on Thursday warned Filipinos back home about suspicious job offers and recruitment schemes there.
In an advisory, the Embassy urged Filipinos to exercise extreme caution when dealing with Myanmar-based recruiters amid rising cases of human trafficking in the Southeast Asian country.
“These schemes have already led many unsuspecting individuals into trafficking-in-persons networks, resulting in severe exploitation, abuse, and life-threatening situations,” the statement reads.
The Embassy also advised Filipinos to only accept legitimate job offers that have been verified by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) before departure.
“Failure to secure proper documentation and DMW clearance significantly increases your risk of falling prey to traffickers,” it added.
In March, the Department of Foreign Affairs brought home 176 Filipino alleged human trafficking victims (HTVs) from illegal scam centers in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
