The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday gave assurance they are ready and capable to enforce peace and order during massive protest rallies set on Sept. 21.
The assurance was made following reports that pro-Duterte groups might join the rallies in Luneta and EDSA, which could lead to confrontations.
In a text message to Manila Standard, NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said his men were ready to implement peace and order measures if the protesters turned violent during the rallies.
“We are very ready regardless of what groups would join the rallies,” Aberin said.
“NCRPO is on top of the situation,” he added.
Aberin said that aside from Civil Disturbance Management Units deployment, NCRPO also had an alternative security plan for the event.
“We have prepared a comprehensive security plan,” he said.
Nearly 2,200 civil disturbance management teams were deployed by the NCRPO as well as 300 ready standby support forces and 42 drone operators were ready to maintain secured and safe conduct of the event.
Over 530 personnel of the NCRPO also were deployed for the border control and checkpoints across Metro Manila while 436 others would be fielded for traffic management.
Moreover, some police officers advised the members of the media to stay safe during their coverage of the event.
“We will be observing maximum tolerance however, we will not stand idly, if a law is violated in our presence,” Aberin added.
