Digital travel platform Agoda is marking World Tourism Day on Sept. 27 with discounts of up to 60 percent, a campaign expected to draw attention to emerging destinations such as Siquijor.
The promotion runs from Sept. 24 to Oct. 8, with flash sales of up to 70 percent on Sept. 27 and Oct. 6. Agoda VIP members will have early access to deals from Sept. 21 to 23.
Beyond discounted rates, Agoda said the campaign offers hotels and activity providers in lesser-known destinations a chance to reach new travelers. Its New Horizons list this year named Siquijor in the Philippines alongside Chiayi in Taiwan, the Perhentian Islands in Malaysia, and Cheongju-si in South Korea as locations seeing increased interest.
“World Tourism Day is a reminder of the need to keep travel accessible and affordable for everyone,” said Andrew Smith, senior vice president for supply at Agoda.
“Accommodation searches for emerging cities now account for over 30 percent of overall searches in the first half of the year. This campaign offers hoteliers in both major hubs and emerging cities the opportunity to connect with new audiences.”
With eased visa restrictions and growing curiosity about offbeat locations, Agoda said Siquijor’s inclusion signals rising demand for the island, long known for its beaches, waterfalls, and mystic traditions.
