The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday welcomed the appointment of the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) new country representative, Neus Bernabeu.
In a statement, DFA Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa Almojuela recognized UNFPA’s role in supporting stronger demographic statistics and data analysis to inform evidence-based policies and planning at national and local levels.
For her part, Bernabeu reaffirmed UNFPA’s commitment to these priorities, underscoring that strengthened collaboration with government and stakeholders is key to ensuring rights and choices for all.
Established in 1967, the UNFPA is an international organization that focuses on reproductive health, gender equality, and population issues worldwide.
The agency is launching its 9th Country Programme in the Philippines for 2024 to 2028, focusing on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, women’s empowerment, prevention of gender-based violence, and youth development.
