Manila to support Lambingan Bridge seismic project

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso on Wednesday pledged the city government’s full support for the upcoming works on the Lambingan Bridge under the Metro Manila Priority Bridges Seismic Improvement Project (MMPBSIP).

“You have 100 percent full support of the city. I just want you to finish…. We are going to inform the community that these things will be challenging for the next 34 months of our lives, but it is for the safety of everyone,” Domagoso said at a meeting with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bridges Management Cluster–UPMO.

He likewise guaranteed that official receipts would be issued for tax payments, while assuring the Public Works Department that the city government would extend all necessary permits, LIAC (Local Inter-Agency Committee) coordination, and traffic management support.

The project is expected to be completed in 34 months, or almost three years.

Meanwhile, Domagoso reminded DPWH representatives of their contractor’s responsibility to settle their obligations to the city under the Tax Code: “You cannot get away with the tax code, not even the president and me. That is for the contractor, not the government.”

It can be recalled that last month, the Manila Mayor issued a cease and desist order against the DPWH when it announced the closure of Dimasalang Bridge’s southbound lane without securing permission from the city.
