The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported Tuesday afternoon a magnitude-4.9 tectonic earthquake located 12 kilometers northwest of General Macarthur, Eastern Samar.
The tremor was recorded at 2:56 p.m. at a depth of 21 kilometers. Phivolcs reported several instrumental intensities across the provinces of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Northern Samar, Sorsogon and even Pampanga.

The state seismic agency, however, noted that damage to properties and aftershocks are not expected from this event. Instrumental intensities were noted in in the following areas:
- Intensity 3 – Borongan City, Eastern Samar; Dulag, Leyte
- Intensity 2 – Hernani, Eastern Samar; Abuyog, Alangalang, Palo, Leyte; Silago, Southern Leyte
- Intensity 1 – Leyte, Hilongos, Leyte; Palapag, Rosario, Northern Samar; San Fernando, Pampanga; Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon; Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
