Charred remains

This photo taken on Jan. 8 shows a dead kangaroo on a farm after bushfires in Batlow, in Australia’s New South Wales state. Batlow has become one of the faces of the destruction wrought by the unprecedented disaster, which also hit areas usually untouched with Australia’s summer fires, when shocking images of dead livestock along a road was shared by the national broadcaster ABC.
