Palestinian Embassy echoes DFA call for Gaza ceasefire

The Palestine Embassy in the Philippines echoed the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) urgent call to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a statement, Palestinian Ambassador to the Philippines Mounir Y.K. Anastas, welcomed the Philippine government’s firm and principled stance to call for an immediate end to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

“We echo the DFA’s emphasis on the need for a ceasefire and a renewed political path toward peace. The current crisis is not merely a serious humanitarian issue but also a political one, rooted in decades of occupation and oppression,” Anastas said.

“As such, we urge the international community to support concrete measures such as arms embargoes, sanctions, and diplomatic pressure to ensure compliance with international law,” he noted.

Anastas also highlighted that the DFA’s statement aligns with the urgent appeals made by the United Nations and other international bodies, recognizing the injustices and violations of international humanitarian law.

“The Palestinian people remain committed to a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, with East Jerusalem as our capital. We hope the Philippines’ stance will inspire other nations to similarly prioritize justice over politics and take decisive action to end the suffering in the occupied Palestinian territory,” his statement added.

Last week, reports indicated that Hamas had officially accepted a proposal for a Gaza ceasefire “without requesting any amendments,” which would include the release of half of the remaining hostages.

As of May 2025, after 19 months of war, over 6,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks, according to health authorities in Gaza.

In June, the Philippines joined 148 countries in voting for a United Nations resolution that demands an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent” ceasefire in Gaza.
