‘Be calm’: MMDA tells motorists approached by traffic enforcers

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday appealed to motorists to remain calm when approached by enforcers who are simply fulfilling their responsibilities in managing traffic in the metropolis.

MMDA Chairman Don Artes made the appeal following an incident that occurred near La Salle Green Hills on Ortigas Avenue in Mandaluyong, where a female driver verbally attacked a traffic enforcer who had stopped her sports utility vehicle from cutting in line with cars in front of the school.

“They (enforcers) are merely executing their duties to uphold traffic regulations,” Artes said.

As a result of the incident, the driver is now the subject of a complaint lodged by the MMDA with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Artes sent a letter to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza, requesting that appropriate disciplinary measures be taken against the female motorist for her conduct.

Additionally, a show cause order (SCO) has been issued to the company that owns the van, instructing it to appear at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City with its representatives and the female driver on August 28.

The company has been requested to provide a written explanation as to why it should not face penalties for permitting an impolite individual to operate the motor vehicle.
