Francis Libiran launches casual ‘Sinag Shirt’ inspired by Olympic barong

Renowned fashion designer Francis Libiran has launched the “Sinag Shirt,” a casual version of the barong Tagalog he created for Filipino athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Libiran said the shirt carries the “spirit of national pride with a modern, everyday twist.” The design showcases the Philippine flag’s colors of red, blue, and white, accented by golden sun rays flowing diagonally across the back to symbolize unity, progress, and resilience.

“This shirt is a reminder of the resilience and brilliance of the Filipino people. The Sinag Shirt lets us wear our pride not just on special occasions, but every day,” Libiran said.

The shirt retails for P2,800 and is available in sizes from extra small to extra large through Libiran’s official website and social media pages.

During the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, Filipino athletes wore Libiran’s “Sinag” barong Tagalog, crafted from piña-jusi with a detachable silk organdy sling embroidered with sun rays and Pintados-inspired warrior motifs. Libiran also designed the uniforms for the 2019 and 2023 Southeast Asian Games.

Libiran has dressed international stars, beauty queens, and athletes for over two decades, earning global recognition for his intricate, modern style.
