Soldiers retrieve 17 IEDs Reds planted along road

Army soldiers have retrieved 17 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by communist rebels in Tboli, South Cotabato, in the process preventing what the military said could have caused deadly consequences.

The Army’s 105th Infantry Battalion found 16 anti-personnel mines and another explosive on Wednesday after residents and members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) reported suspicious items in Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay Maan, the 6th Infantry Division (6ID) said Thursday.

The bombs were discovered along an abandoned road leading to Lake Maughan.

Brig. Gen. Michael Santos, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, credited the community’s cooperation for averting “a possible tragic incident that could claimed many lives.” Rex Espiritu
