Classes suspended in parts of Metro Manila due to rains, floods

Heavy rains and flooding caused the cancellation of classes in at least nine cities in Metro Manila on Friday. 

As of 9:30 a.m., suspension of classes in both private and public schools at all levels was announced in the cities of Manila, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Mandaluyong, Pasay, and Muntinlupa because of bad weather conditions.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported gutter-deep floods on the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard, Quirino Avenue, United Nations Avenue, Kalaw, Leveriza Street, Taft Avenue, and Pedro Gil Street, and areas of the Philippine Christian University and Philippine General Hospital, all in Manila.

Gutter-deep floods were also reported along Sucat Avenue corner Canaynay Avenue, and the northbound lane near Paranaque National High School in Paranaque City; the northbound lane of EDSA Shaw Tunnel in Mandaluyong City; EDSA-Roxas Boulevard, Tramo Street, and Andrews Avenue in Pasay City; and the northbound lane of Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City.

The Mandaluyong City government reported flooded areas along Boni Avenue, Cruz Street, Lopez Street, and Ballesteros Street, all in Barangay Zaniga, and Nueve de Pebrero in Barangay Mauway.

There were also reports of stranded commuters in some parts of Metro Manila. 

The MMDA, in cooperation with local government units, is working to clear the roads and assist those affected by the flooding.
