ARMED Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. on Wednesday reiterated the military’s strict policy of zero tolerance against corruption, warning personnel that soliciting or accepting favors in any form “has no place in the service.”
In a statement released by the AFP Public Affairs Office, Brawner reminded soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines that integrity and professionalism remain the foundations of military service.
“Public office is a public trust. We exist to serve the Filipino people with honor, never to use our position for personal gain,” Brawner stressed.
The AFP chief emphasized that asking for or receiving money, gifts, or favors from contractors, suppliers, or stakeholders constitutes a violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials, as well as military regulations.
He added that such actions betray the oath of service and the trust of the Filipino people.
Brawner vowed “swift, firm, and uncompromising action” against anyone found engaging in corrupt practices. He also called on the public and stakeholders to report irregularities, stressing that commanders at all levels are duty-bound to enforce the policy.
“Walang puwang sa ating hanay ang katiwalian at hindi natin ito palalampasin (There is no pace for corruption in our ranks and we will never let it pass),” the AFP chief said.
Brawner’s stern warning came as part of the AFP’s continuing efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability within the organization, in line with the directives of President Marcos.
“Our service will never be for sale,” Brawner declared.
